The Roman empire was vast and filled with raw materials so that trade routes throughout Europe, Egypt, North Africa and the Mediterranean enabled Romans to incorporate a multitude of precious and semi-precious stones into their jewellery designs. Pearls from the Persian Gulf and Coral from the Mediterranean were a popular choice as can be seen from this 2nd century Romano-Egyptian Fayum mummy portrait on which we based our 21st century multi-strand adaptation, with:
A summery 4-strand necklace of White pearls alternating with Pink and Red Coral beads, all of different shapes and sizes, on a steel magnetic trumpet clasp
