Afghanistan was the source of Lapis Lazuli for the Ancient Egyptian civilisation (and the later Greek and Roman cultures) and was obtained through trade with the Mesopotamians. It was a highly prized gemstone that was abundantly used in ornamental objects, amulets and jewellery and powdered Lapis was used as a cosmetic.
Today, still mined in Afghanistan, this beautiful stone is just as wonderful to work with and creates jewellery that always stands out.
